New Announcements and Deadlines

Fall Interview Program CORRECTION: The application deadline for the Internal Revenue Service is September 3, not September 8.

Student Exam Training Video: New Students that did not attend the exam training must watch the video linked in Tera Holmes' August 27 email before their first quiz, mid-term, or exam, as it has information on the ExamSoft software, updating your device, and other exam related matters. 

Mock Trial: Sign-up if you interested in Mock Trial's listserv, intramural competition, and/or an external mock trial competition. See the e-mail that Dr. J forwarded on 8/30 for more information on mock trial competitions, the power point from the information session, and the 2024-2025 case packet. Reach out to lawmocktrial@lawnet.uci.edu for questions.

1Ls: American Bar Association's Section of Legal Education SurveyThe Council of the Section of Legal Education and the Admissions to the Bar of the ABA would like to understand the composition of UCI Law's student body and of first-year law students nationally to enforce its standards and to provide accurate consumer information. Click here for FAQs and the link to a 5-minute survey.

3Ls: ASP's Bar Prep Program: Help customize bar prep programming by completing this 2-minute survey by Monday, September 2 at 5:00pm.

1Ls: Diverse Attorney Pipeline Program (DAPP): Scholars Program: This year-long national program is dedicated to supporting first-year women of color law students as they navigate the legal profession. The program offers comprehensive assistance to DAPP scholars, including class preparation, tutoring, study aids, job placements (after the first semester), and mentoring. Register by Wednesday, September 4.

ABA Antitrust Section: Law Student Ambassador ProgramThe ABA Section of Antitrust Law is accepting applications from students interested in careers in antitrust, consumer protection, or privacy. Submit your application by September 23. 

3Ls: If you are using Barbri and they are billing your law firm, Barbi will donate a Barbi Premier course to one of your public interest friends. Selected public interest students will only be responsible for the $250 refundable book deposit, tax, and shipping. Please contact Chuck Shonholtz, the UCI Law Barbri rep to receive this offer. The promotion ends on September 30. If you do not have a public interest student to offer this to, contact Dean Deol.

UPCOMING WORKSHOPS

Moot Court: As a friendly reminder, the UCI Law Moot Court Competition Informational Session is next Tuesday, September 3rd, from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. in EDU 1111. Only LL.M students, second-year, and third-year UCI Law J.D. students who did not advance to the Top 16 last year are eligible to compete. We encourage first-year students to attend and learn more about the Moot Court program. See the message Dr. J sent on 8/26 for details on how to sign-up and have lunch provided. Please email the Moot Court Board at lawmootcourt@lawnet.uci.edu if you have any questions.

International Center Presentation (for International Students): Wednesday, September 4; 12:00pm to 1:00pm; EDU 1111: This workshop is for international students to gain knowledge of immigration compliance to successfully maintain their status throughout their academic studies and receive an overview of work authorization options and services provided by the International Center. Light lunch will be served. See e-mail from Dr. J and/or Dr. Z with RSVP information.

Ms. JD's Leadership Academy Intensive; Harvard Law School, November 15 and 16: This conference offers valuable insights into navigating the legal industry, with opportunities to hear from inspiring keynote speakers, attend empowering workshops, and network with fellow women law students. Apply by October 13 at 8:59pm. 

Announcement Reminders

1Ls: Registration with the California Bar: All students planning to take the California State Bar must register with the Bar while in law school. Refer to Dean Jones' email on August 20 or the California State Bar's website for further details. 

Preferred Names: Students can submit a preferred name via StudentAccess, which will replace their legal name on certain University records, including transcripts and diplomas. To avoid having a preferred name on diplomas, students must remove it in StudentAccess before commencement. More details are available here.

Requesting Disability Accommodations: The Student Services Office coordinates students' requests that have been approved by the Disability Services Center (DSC). Students seeking accommodations are encouraged to complete the process outlined in Dean Jones’ August 19 email as soon as possible, especially students who anticipate needing testing accommodations for the Bar Exam. For questions, contact the Student Services Office or the DSC directly at (949) 824-7494.

2Ls & 3Ls: The Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP)This free recruitment and referral program connects federal and private sector employers nationwide with highly motivated students with disabilities who are eager to prove their abilities in the workplace through summer or permanent jobs. All candidates must register by Tuesday, October 15. If you have questions, please contact UC Irvine Law's coordinator, Brandy Stewart, at bstewart@law.uci.edu or 949-824-5963.

1Ls: Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD): Success in Law School Mentoring Program: This mentoring program is available to diverse students, providing them with personalized mentoring from attorneys at the most prestigious law firms and corporate legal departments.  Register by Monday, November 18.

Cutting Sign to the Legal Profession; Friday, October 4 and Saturday, October 5: The University of Utah, S.J. Quinney College of Law invites students of Native American/American Indian, Alaska Native, First Nations, and other North American Indigenous heritages to attend panels with Native judges and practitioners, network with professionals, and participate in a day of interviewing with employers from across the county. Registration is now open.
