Meet Gabriel:
Hi! I'm Gabriel, a J.D. and Ph.D. student at UC Irvine, where I study law alongside criminology, law and society with a focus on psychology and law. My research explores domestic violence, family law, developmental criminology, and how legal institutions shape people's lives. Before coming to UC Irvine Law, I completed master's degrees in criminology and criminal justice, public administration, demographic and social analysis, and social ecology, which have given me an interdisciplinary perspective on legal problems and public policy.
Outside the classroom, I'm passionate about connecting research with real-world impact. I've volunteered with the Public Law Center's Domestic Violence Legal Clinic, spent my 1L Summer with the American Bar Association's Pro Bono and Public Service Standing Committee, and teach criminal justice courses at California State University, Fullerton. I also enjoy mentoring students and collaborating on research that examines issues ranging from child custody and intimate partner violence to disability and the legal system.
One of the things I value most about UC Irvine Law is its collaborative and supportive community. As someone who came to law school from a research background, I found mentors, classmates, and faculty who genuinely invest in each other's success. Whether you're curious about balancing law school with other academic interests, getting involved in pro bono work, or simply wondering what life at UC Irvine Law is like, I'm always happy to chat.
When I'm not teaching, researching, or studying, you'll usually find me exploring new coffee shops, spending time with my Chiweenie "Candy", or enjoying Southern California. I look forward to meeting prospective students and sharing what has made my experience at UC Irvine Law so rewarding.
