Prof. Al-Obaidi (previously published as Sayid Bnefsi) is a law and philosophy scholar who was a concurrent J.D./Ph.D. Philosophy student at UC Irvine.
Aaron Brynildson (’15)
Law Instructor at the Center for Air and Space Law, University of Mississippi School of Law
Prof. Brynildson studies and works in air and space law with interests in emerging aerospace technology and its application to future conflicts. He also represents professional and college football players as an NFLPA Certified Contract Advisor and NIL contract expert.

Doyle joined the Fordham Law Library in August 2024 as the Foreign, Comparative, and International Law Librarian.
Changdeok Gim (LL.M. ’16)

Prof. Gim's research interests include environmental policy, climate adaptation, infrastructure resilience, and environmental governance. Prior to joining SUNY Korea in 2024, he served as Associate Director of Water UCI at the University of California, Irvine.

Prof. Echols was a J.D./Ph.D. concurrent degree student in Criminology, Law & Society at UC Irvine and started this position at the University of Utah on July 1, 2026.
Pilar Margarita Hernandez Escontrias (’20)
Assistant Professor of Law, Seattle University School of Law
Prof. Hernandez Escontrias’ research examines the intersections between law, inequality, and the history of racial capitalism while centering abolitionist vision and praxis. Her work considers how law and the legal profession construct and uphold settler-colonial projects across time. She has published in the areas of legal ethics, legal history, and Latines and the law.

Hasbrouck works to strengthen community-based legal services for immigrants and refugees across Southern California.
Bryant Jackson-Green (’24)
Lecturer, Loyola University Chicago, Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology
Prof. Jackson-Green was a concurrent degree student at UC Irvine and received his Ph.D. in Social Ecology from UC Irvine in 2025 in addition to his J.D. His research broadly focuses on criminal justice policy and organizational theory, studying how organizations implement criminal justice reforms. His primary research agenda examines how healthcare consent decrees and settlement agreements are used to reform healthcare in U.S. prisons.

Shaleen Shanbhag brings over a decade of experience in civil rights litigation and advocacy to lead the Korematsu Center, which advances civil rights through education, advocacy, and legal support.
Christopher Williams (’19)

Prof. Williams is the first UC Irvine Law alum to join our full-time faculty. He is a sociologist whose scholarship focuses on issues of race, gender, sexuality, and their intersection with constitutional law and criminal procedure. His work examines efforts to make the criminal justice system more equitable for communities of color.
