About the Center
UCI’s Center for Legal Philosophy was launched in 2017 as an initiative of the School of Humanities in partnership with the School of Law. It serves as official home to the collaborative activities of the growing community of scholars working at the intersection of law and philosophy, as well as related fields in the humanities. It also works to liaise with the larger international community of jurisprudence scholars, facilitating connections between that community and UCI's legal philosophers and their research.
The Center hosts a colloquium series, "Law, Reason, and Value," co-sponsored by the School of Humanities and the School of Law. In that series, distinguished scholars of law and philosophy present papers on a range of topics in legal philosophy, broadly construed, such as the relationship of legal norms to moral norms, the epistemology of evidence, responsibility in law and morality, and the criteria for permissible risk imposition. Future endeavors of the Center will include, among other things, conferences on law and philosophy topics and published proceedings of our events.
