Our Programs

Student Associateships

CTJ offers one-year associateships to outstanding student affiliates. Associates have the opportunity to work one-on-one with faculty on a law and technology topic of pressing concern. Each associateship concludes with a memo, report, testimony, or other form of work product based on the associate's research during that academic year. Applications are due during the summer before the associateships start.

Research

CTJ has a unique partnership with the Cyber Civil Rights Initiative (CCRI), the leading advocacy group making a difference in the fight against image- and video-based sexual abuse. Together, CTJ and CCRI seek to deepen scholarly and popular knowledge about nonconsensual pornography, deepfake pornography, sextortion, and other forms of digital sexual abuse in queer communities. Each year, 1-4 social scientists will be named Cyber Civil Rights Fellows and will be given a stipend of $3,000-$5,000 to conduct research in this area, with the goal of publishing in both academic and popular outlets. Applications open at the beginning of the academic year.

Community Lecture

CTJ brings one distinguished speaker to UC Irvine per year to deliver a large community lecture on a topic related to law and technology. CTJ partners with other programs and initiatives focused on technology and society throughout campus to amplify this public event.

LawTechTalks

CTJ invites scholars and practitioners to join us for informal lunch talks with faculty and students. We partner and co-sponsor these events with UC Irvine Law’s student group, the Technology Law Society.
